Role impact:

The Sustainability Specialist will support and manage key industry leading initiatives for CF properties, and the corporate sustainability strategy. Working with internal and external stakeholders, the specialist will manage key initiatives such as: Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) submission, Green at Work (CF’s sustainability program) stakeholder engagement initiatives, and key projects related to waste reduction, procurement, and land/biodiversity. This role will have the opportunity to positively impact our industry and communities in which we live and work, resulting in strong client/customer relations, risk mitigation, resource protection, and operational efficiencies across our properties.

 

What you will deliver:

  • Drive the execution of key industry leading sustainability initiatives across all departments, portfolios and properties to enhance the company’s leadership position, such as GRESB
  • Lead the collection of sustainability stories, qualitative and quantitative information for the company's annual sustainability report, GRESB submission, PRI and other reporting activity.  Communicate results to properties and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with team members to collaborate and identify opportunities to protect natural resources and deliver a client-first experience
  • Implement waste management projects, including third party waste audits, bin standards, construction waste, and single use plastics, identifying inter-related projects and task dependencies, reporting on impact to schedules using appropriate Project Management Tools, and preparing program documentation as required
  • Research and prepare presentation materials for industry and competitive trends.  Support the education of internal stakeholders (including senior leadership / board level).
  • Support the property implementation process for new and existing third-party standards and certifications (LEED, BOMA BEST, WELL, Walkscore)
  • Act as an expert resource for members of head office and properties on specific sustainability priorities including waste management, land and responsible procurement
  • Review national contracts and procurement policies and recommend environmental criteria and requirements for supplier evaluation.
  • Develop and review sustainability policies for Energy, Water and Waste Reduction, Greenhouse Gas Reporting and Climate Change following industry standards
  • Research relevant disclosure frameworks and environmental and sustainability regulations.  Implement regulatory tracking framework to keep internal stakeholders informed
  • Lead process for awards submissions
  • Coordinate activities pertaining to key stakeholder engagement e.g. campaigns
  • Organize and maintain project documentation

What you need to succeed:     

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Management or other related field
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in property operations, environmental or waste management related position
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability and corporate responsibility practices in real estate including but not limited to certifications and disclosures, energy management, waste management and diversion, land and biodiversity best practices, sustainability issues and procurement policies
  • Must have demonstrated project management skills
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Master’s Degree an asset
  • LEED Green Associate or Accredited Professional an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification an asset
