Role summary:

The Lead, Project Management, National Operations is a 12 Month Contract role.

Business transformation to drive national operational efficiency and effectiveness across all properties is a key priority for National Operations. This role will be responsible for building a project management capability within CF by developing, implementing and maintaining an infrastructure of business processes, procedures, supporting tools, and training systems. This role will also provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to project teams, driving team efficiency and excellence.

 

In this role, you will develop methodology and tools for assessing and assigning project priority, and maintaining the on-going portfolio of projects to maximize business value. To facilitate communications with the business and project teams, this role will develop the methodologies and toolkit defining project performance metrics, program/portfolio reporting, and resource demand management, and facilitate communication of project performance and progress to business stakeholders. This position will partner with cross organizational Management teams, as required, to gather buy-in, collect feedback, establish metrics, and to provide overall governance to operational projects, including those within IT project management/ program services team.

 

You will be responsible for:

OVERALL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Build a project management discipline for National Operations, including establishing methodologies, strategic planning and project management standardization across the department. 
  • Provide full lifecycle project management leadership and support in the delivery of projects and system enhancements, enabling the pipeline of national projects to be delivered on time, within budget, adhering to high quality standards and remaining aligned to the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Translate the overall department vision into program scope, design and executables.
  • Promote and champion the adoption and use of within the organization.
  • Champion consistent project management methodologies, strong program governance and execution processes, maintaining oversight of overall program.
  • Manage program scope using appropriate fact-based metrics/assumptions; defining KPI’s to report on benefit realization for tracking value and performance against business case.
  • Oversee all project communications, including status reports to all stakeholders.
  • Work closely with and champion Change Management to support the use of organizational change management framework against all initiatives.

 

TEAM MANAGEMENT & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

  • Manage the pool of project management resources and their assignment to projects and systems enhancements initiatives. Lead delivery of committed project work by allocating resources, providing guidance and coaching the team as needed, clearing roadblocks, resolving conflicts, developing team members and managing performance.

 

REPORTING & METRICS

  • Establish standardized methodology for compiled and reported information to management by using dashboards/metrics/technology platforms
  • Diligently track and report on financial measures including budget management and cash flow tracking
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations on national projects, influencing decision makers and gaining buy-in for recommendations

 

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT – PROJECT DELIVERY

  • Improve overall project delivery capabilities across the organization. Liaise with all levels of business to explore and define new and innovative ways to improve overall project delivery.
  • Conduct research and development of project management processes and best practices and assessment of existing practices, recommend changes where required

 

You have:

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, project management, business or a related field
  • MBA is not mandatory, but will be considered an asset
  • Project management certification or accreditation is essential
  • 10-12 years of demonstrated experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and multi-year operational planning
  • Experience leading large cross-enterprise programs with high level of value (benefit/cost), and very high level of complexity
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience
  • Strong process optimization and automation experience
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of and experience with change management
  • Must possess deep knowledge and expertise in the use of Project Management methodologies and have a clear understanding of human resources policies/practices and change management techniques
  • Excellent knowledge of project portfolio management tools (MS Project or other) and project management processes and methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to influence internal stakeholders, including executive management
  • Strong communication skills to effectively manage stakeholders, vendors and team members
  • Ability to build and deliver executive level presentations
  • Ability to lead and motivate both direct and indirect teams
