Role Summary:
To interview, hire/terminate, discipline, train, schedule and provide uniforms for all Security Guards in the department.  To create Standard Operating Guidelines and ensure immediate response to all complex emergencies.  To maintain open communication with all personnel in an effort to continuously improve the overall operation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Through the provision of regular feedback in the form of status meetings objective setting sessions, performance appraisals, coaching, counseling, discipline and the assignment of developmental projects:

  • Manage the activities of all direct reports to ensure the timely and effective achievement of departmental goals and objectives, within prescribed policies, procedures and standard business practices; and
  • Provide regular motivation and mentoring to all staff to encourage on-going professional development for succession planning purposes.

 

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Development and implement Standard Operating Guidelines to provide Security Department with clear, concise instructions for performing daily duties;
  • Determine needs and resources and coordinate and schedule training of staff;
  • Monitor dress, deportment and written reports of staff;
  • Investigate tenant complaints, thefts and suspicious activities promptly and provide feedback to tenants, management and others;
  • Schedule daily activities of staff to ensure qualified coverage of security functions;
  • Mediate internal staff conflicts, provides evaluations and recommendations;
  • Liaise with tenants on behalf of CF management to resolve issues and concerns and provide advice on loss control and other security matters;
  • Interview, hire and discipline, and if necessary, terminate staff of the Security Department;
  • Review, distribute and file daily memoranda, staff records and correspondence;
  • Maintain open communication with all personnel in order to seek new ways for improving the overall operation of the department;
  • Conduct formal or informal training of staff in First Aid, CPR, handcuffing techniques, self-defense, report writing and other skills or knowledge related to security responsibilities;
  • Write comprehensive security reports and summaries;
  • Oversee/handle sensitive, high profile situations in professional and exemplary manner;
  • Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant legislation and regulations including, but not limited to:
    • Employment Standards Act
    • Human Rights Code
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • The Criminal Code, and
    • The Trespass to Property Act;
  • Maintain currency of knowledge in security systems, equipment and techniques;
  • Supervise all aspects of operation of the Security Department.

 

You have:

  • College diploma in Law Enforcement and/or Security Administration;
  • 3 - 4 years’ experience with a security firm or law enforcement agency
  • 2 years supervisory experience or equivalent combination of related education, training and experience
  • Valid certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS
  • Valid Provincial Security License
  • Good knowledge of:
    • CF policies and procedures
    • Duties and responsibilities of all direct and indirect reports
    • Site security and life safety needs
    • Industry-related techniques, technology and trends
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Ability to:
    • delegate effectively
